Gold buyers and jewellery businesses have received an important update as the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has revised hallmarking charges for gold articles. Under the BIS (Hallmarking) Amendment Regulations, 2026, the hallmarking fee for gold articles has been increased from 45 rupees to 75 rupees per article.

This means jewellers will now pay 30 rupees more per gold article for hallmarking. The revised regulations were issued by BIS on September 14, 2026.
BIS Raises Gold Hallmarking Fee from 45 Rupees to 75 Rupees
Under the earlier Schedule IV provisions, jewellers were required to pay 45 rupees per gold article to recognised Assaying and Hallmarking Centres (AHCs).
The revised 2026 regulations increase this charge to 75 rupees per article.

Therefore, the latest BIS notification primarily affects the per-article hallmarking cost for gold, while the corresponding silver charge remains at the existing level.
BIS Fee Charged to AHCs for Gold Also Increased
The revised regulations have also changed the fee that BIS charges from recognised Assaying and Hallmarking Centres for gold articles.
The AHC-to-BIS gold fee has increased from 4.50 rupees to 7.50 rupees per article.
