Budget Market Timing: January is about to end. And with it, investors and traders are gearing up for one of the most influential events of the year, The Union Budget Day 2026, which is going to live on 1st Feb 2026, sharp at 11:00 am (IST).
The budget is prepared by Honourable Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman and would be presented on the day as well, live.
Historically, the budget always had a strong impact on how markets react, and this time it would not be any different. Despite the budget being announced on a Sunday, the markets of India will be open. This would allow traders and investors to react immediately to the fiscal announcements without waiting for the next weekday.
These special sessions of the markets help prevent large overnight price gaps, ensure real-time price discovery, and allow participants in equities, derivatives, and commodities to hedge positions and make informed decisions based on the latest government policies. Essentially, it keeps the market active and transparent during a high-impact economic event.
TIMINGS OF THE MARKETS
Indian stock markets usually remain closed on weekends, but both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) have issued official circulars confirming a special live trading session on Budget Day. The timings of the market is as follows:-
Pre-Open Session: 9:00 am – 9:08 am (IST)
Normal Market Trading: 9:15 am – 3:30 pm (IST)
The Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX) has also issued a Budget Day circular confirming a special live trading session on Sunday, 1 February 2026. Market participants can trade multiple commodity futures — such as gold, silver, crude oil, and base metals — on the day of the Budget. The timings of the market are as follows:-
Special Pre-Session: 8:45 am – 8:59 am (IST)
Normal Trading Session: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm (IST)
