Dubai recorded its highest-ever diamond trading activity in 2025, with total trade reaching 41.7 billion US dollars and 359.5 million carats, according to data released by DMCC and Dubai Customs. The figures surpassed the previous record of 40.9 billion US dollars, set in 2011, marking a milestone for the emirate’s global diamond industry.

Check the latest rates for gold and silver—including MCX, international market, and bullion prices, as well as rates in your city—on our new website: https://goldpricetodaynews.com/

Dubai Diamond Trade Hits Historic High in 2025

DMCC announced on 13 July 2026 that Dubai achieved record-breaking diamond trade in 2025, with total trade value increasing 16.2% year-on-year from 35.8 billion US dollars in 2024 to 41.7 billion US dollars.

The city also traded a record 359.5 million carats, representing a 42.5% increase compared with the previous year. According to DMCC, this is the first time Dubai has simultaneously recorded all-time highs in both the value and physical volume of diamond trade.

Natural Diamonds Continue to Dominate the Market

Natural diamonds remained the largest contributor to Dubai’s diamond trade, generating 39.9 billion US dollars during 2025 and accounting for 95.8% of the total trade value.

Trade in natural rough diamonds reached 205.2 million carats, making it the second-highest annual volume on record and approximately 34% higher than in 2024.

Meanwhile, natural polished diamond trade climbed to 18.7 billion US dollars, reflecting a nearly 25% year-on-year increase. DMCC noted that the value of natural polished diamond trade has risen 246% since 2020, while the average value per carat has increased by roughly eight to nine times over the same period.

Diamond Trade Has Expanded Significantly Since 2020

According to DMCC, Dubai’s diamond sector has witnessed strong long-term growth. Since 2020, total diamond trade through Dubai has increased 139% in value and 100% in physical volume, highlighting the emirate’s expanding role in connecting diamond-producing countries, manufacturing centres and consumer markets.

Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of DMCC, said the latest figures reflect Dubai’s long-term strategy of building a connected, transparent and efficient ecosystem for the global precious stones industry. He added that the city continues to provide infrastructure, regulatory certainty, financial access and specialised services for producers, manufacturers, traders and retailers.

Coloured Gemstone Trade Also Sets New Record

Beyond diamonds, Dubai’s coloured gemstone trade also reached a historic milestone in 2025.

Trade in coloured gemstones climbed to 1.1 billion US dollars, representing a 48% year-on-year increase. Imports rose 68.8%, while re-exports advanced 33.5%, indicating growth in both sourcing and distribution activities.

Dubai Strengthens Its Position as a Global Diamond Hub

DMCC stated that Dubai’s diamond trade has increased 63% in value and 44% in volume over the past decade. The organisation also noted that synthetic and industrial diamonds together now account for around 39% of the total diamond carat volume traded through the emirate.

DMCC operates the Dubai Diamond Exchange (DDE), described as the region’s largest diamond tender facility, supported by an integrated ecosystem that includes secure logistics, customs facilitation, grading services, financial solutions, technology and specialised infrastructure.

FAQs

1. What record did Dubai achieve in diamond trade during 2025?

Dubai recorded its highest-ever diamond trade, reaching 41.7 billion US dollars and 359.5 million carats, surpassing the previous record set in 2011.

2. How much did Dubai’s diamond trade grow compared with 2024?

Total diamond trade increased 16.2% year-on-year in value, while the physical volume of diamonds traded rose 42.5% compared with 2024.

3. What share of Dubai’s diamond trade came from natural diamonds?

Natural diamonds generated 39.9 billion US dollars, accounting for 95.8% of Dubai’s total diamond trade value in 2025.

4. How did coloured gemstone trade perform in 2025?

Coloured gemstone trade reached a record 1.1 billion US dollars, rising 48% year-on-year, with imports increasing 68.8% and re-exports growing 33.5%.

5. What does DMCC say contributed to Dubai’s position in the global diamond trade?

According to DMCC, Dubai’s growth has been supported by its integrated ecosystem, including the Dubai Diamond Exchange, secure logistics, customs facilitation, financial services, grading, technology and specialised infrastructure.

Gold prices declined for a second consecutive week as rising Middle East tensions lifted oil prices, increasing inflation concerns and strengthening expectations of higher US interest rates. Spot gold fell to 4,103.23 US dollars per ounce, while investors shifted focus to upcoming US inflation data and Federal Reserve policy signals.

Gold prices remained under pressure on Friday, heading for a weekly loss as escalating tensions in the Middle East pushed crude oil prices higher and renewed concerns about global inflation. Investors increasingly expect central banks, particularly the US Federal Reserve, to keep monetary policy restrictive for longer, reducing the appeal of non-yielding assets such as gold.

Check out the latest Gold, Silver prices in MCX, International Market, Sarafa and your city on our new website– https://goldpricetodaynews.com/

Spot gold fell 0.4% to 4,103.23 US dollars per ounce, while US gold futures for August settled 0.7% lower at approximately 4,113.70 US dollars per ounce. For the week, spot gold declined 1.7%, marking another challenging period for the precious metal.

US-Iran Conflict Drives Inflation Concerns

Market sentiment was influenced by renewed geopolitical tensions involving the United States and Iran. The latest escalation has increased concerns over potential disruptions to global oil supplies, pushing energy prices higher.

Higher crude oil prices typically fuel inflation, prompting central banks to maintain tighter monetary policies. While gold is traditionally viewed as a hedge against inflation, rising interest rates often outweigh that benefit because they increase the attractiveness of interest-bearing investments compared with bullion.

Federal Reserve Rate Expectations Pressure Gold

Investors are increasingly pricing in another US interest rate increase as inflation risks remain elevated.

According to market expectations, there is roughly a 69% probability of a Federal Reserve rate hike in September. Minutes from the Fed’s June policy meeting also revealed that policymakers remain concerned about persistent inflation, reinforcing expectations that borrowing costs could stay higher for longer.

Market participants are now awaiting next week’s US inflation data and testimony from Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh, both of which could provide further guidance on the future direction of monetary policy.

Physical Gold Demand Shows Mixed Trends

Physical gold demand varied across major Asian markets during the week.

In India, gold traded at a significant discount as consumer demand remained subdued. Meanwhile, China’s physical gold market remained relatively stable after the country’s central bank reported its largest monthly increase in official gold reserves in more than two and a half years during June.

Other Precious Metals Performance

Precious metals showed mixed movement during Friday’s session:

Silver declined 0.7% to 59.56 US dollars per ounce.

Platinum gained 0.4% to 1,616.72 US dollars per ounce.

Palladium climbed 2.2% to 1,274.50 US dollars per ounce.

Why Gold Is Falling Despite Geopolitical Uncertainty

Although geopolitical tensions usually support safe-haven assets such as gold, investors are currently focusing more on the impact of higher oil prices on inflation and interest rates. Expectations of tighter monetary policy have strengthened the US dollar and increased bond yields, both of which tend to reduce demand for gold.

If inflation continues to remain elevated, central banks may delay interest rate cuts or even tighten policy further, creating additional headwinds for bullion prices.

FAQ’s

1. Why did gold prices fall despite rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East?

Gold prices declined because investors focused more on the inflationary impact of rising oil prices than on gold’s traditional safe-haven appeal. Higher energy costs have strengthened expectations that the US Federal Reserve may keep interest rates elevated for longer, making non-yielding assets like gold less attractive.

2. How did rising oil prices affect the gold market?

The recent increase in crude oil prices has raised concerns about higher inflation worldwide. Persistent inflation could prompt central banks to maintain tighter monetary policies or introduce additional interest rate hikes. Higher interest rates generally pressure gold prices by increasing the returns available from interest-bearing investments such as bonds.

3. What are investors expecting from the US Federal Reserve?

Market participants are currently pricing in approximately a 69% probability of a US Federal Reserve interest rate hike in September. Investors are also closely monitoring upcoming US inflation data and Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh’s testimony for further clues about the future direction of monetary policy.

4. How did other precious metals perform during the latest trading session?

Alongside gold’s decline, silver fell 0.7% to 59.56 US dollars per ounce. In contrast, platinum gained 0.4% to 1,616.72 US dollars per ounce, while palladium advanced 2.2% to 1,274.50 US dollars per ounce, reflecting mixed performance across the precious metals market.

5. What is the outlook for gold prices in the coming weeks?

Gold prices are likely to remain sensitive to developments in the Middle East, movements in oil prices, upcoming US inflation data, and Federal Reserve policy decisions. If inflation remains elevated and expectations for higher interest rates strengthen further, gold could continue facing pressure despite ongoing geopolitical uncertainty.

Gold prices declined for a second consecutive session as a stronger United States dollar weighed on demand ahead of the Federal Reserve's meeting minutes. Investors also monitored escalating Gulf tensions. China's continued gold purchases supported long-term sentiment, while silver and platinum weakened and palladium posted modest gains during Tuesday's trading.

Gold prices moved lower for the second straight trading session on Tuesday as the stronger United States dollar reduced demand for the precious metal. Investors remained cautious ahead of the release of the latest Federal Reserve meeting minutes while also keeping a close watch on rising geopolitical tensions in the Gulf region.

Check out the latest Gold, Silver prices in MCX, International Market, Sarafa and your city on our new website – https://goldpricetodaynews.com/

Spot gold was trading 0.8 percent lower at 4,129.36 dollars per ounce at 0918 GMT. The decline followed last week’s rally of more than 2 percent, when gold ended a four-week losing streak after weaker-than-expected United States employment data boosted hopes of monetary policy changes.

Meanwhile, August gold futures in the United States slipped 0.6 percent to 4,140.90 dollars per ounce.

Stronger Dollar Limits Gold’s Gains

The United States dollar index gained around 0.1 percent against a basket of major currencies, making gold more expensive for overseas buyers. Since gold is priced in dollars, a stronger currency generally reduces international demand and puts pressure on prices.

Market analysts believe the latest decline reflects profit booking and consolidation rather than a major shift in the bullish sentiment that emerged last week.

Fed Minutes Remain the Key Market Trigger

Investors are now waiting for the Federal Reserve’s latest policy meeting minutes, which are expected to provide fresh clues on inflation, labour market conditions and the future direction of United States interest rates.

According to market expectations reflected in the CME FedWatch tool, traders currently see nearly a 58 percent probability of a Federal Reserve interest rate increase in September. Expectations of higher borrowing costs usually reduce the appeal of non-interest-bearing assets such as gold.

Middle East Tensions Add to Market Uncertainty

Geopolitical developments also remained in focus after former United States President Donald Trump renewed warnings of possible military action against Iran. In response, Iran’s foreign minister stated that negotiations on a final peace agreement would not continue unless the United States withdrew its threats.

The renewed uncertainty pushed crude oil prices slightly higher as traders remained concerned about limited progress in regional peace efforts.

Higher oil prices can increase inflationary pressures, reinforcing expectations that United States interest rates may stay elevated for a longer period. This scenario typically creates headwinds for gold prices.

China Continues to Increase Gold Reserves

Despite the recent weakness in prices, China’s central bank continued expanding its gold holdings for the 20th consecutive month. Official reserves increased to 75.44 million fine troy ounces at the end of June, compared with 74.96 million ounces in the previous month.

The continued accumulation highlights steady long-term demand for gold from one of the world’s largest buyers.

Hong Kong Strengthens Gold Trading Infrastructure

Hong Kong also announced the launch of a new central gold clearing system on Tuesday while restarting United States dollar-denominated gold futures trading. The move is expected to strengthen the city’s position as an important precious metals trading hub in Asia.

Other Precious Metals Performance

Other precious metals also witnessed mixed trading during the session:

Spot silver declined 1.9 percent to 60.93 dollars per ounce

Platinum slipped 0.1 percent to 1,630.23 dollars per ounce

Palladium gained 0.2 percent to 1,270.63 dollars per ounce

Overall, investors remain focused on upcoming Federal Reserve signals and geopolitical developments, both of which are expected to determine the next direction for gold and other precious metals.

FAQs

1. Why did gold prices fall today?
Gold prices declined due to a stronger United States dollar, which made the precious metal more expensive for international buyers, while investors awaited the Federal Reserve’s policy meeting minutes.

2. What are investors watching in the Fed minutes?
Traders are looking for clues on inflation, labour market conditions, and the future path of United States interest rates.

3. How do Gulf tensions affect gold prices?
Geopolitical tensions increase market uncertainty, often supporting safe-haven demand for gold, although higher oil prices can also strengthen expectations of higher interest rates.

4. Why is China’s gold buying important?
China’s central bank increased its gold reserves for the 20th consecutive month, reflecting strong long-term demand and providing support to the global gold market.

5. How did other precious metals perform?
Spot silver and platinum declined during the session, while palladium recorded a slight gain amid mixed trading across the precious metals market.

A quiet but massive realignment is underway in the global financial system as China opens a new front in the contest over who determines the price of gold—and Africa is emerging as the decisive battleground. Rather than relying solely on financial markets or monetary policy, Beijing is systematically dismantling speculative domestic paper-gold trading while building an international ecosystem centered on physical bullion, yuan-based settlements, and African mineral wealth. Taken together, these moves represent a long-term effort to reduce dependence on Western-controlled financial infrastructure, strengthen the yuan’s international role, and shift global gold price discovery away from New York and London toward Shanghai.

Check out the latest Gold, Silver prices in MCX, International Market, Sarafa and your city on our new website– https://goldpricetodaynews.com/

The Crackdown on Paper Gold

Over the past month, several of China’s largest financial institutions have announced the end of retail paper-gold trading.

Major Banking Shifts: The Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC)—the world’s largest bank by assets—will completely halt individual precious metals trading on July 24, 2026, according to notices released in late June. Bank of China, Postal Savings Bank of China, and several other major lenders are implementing similar measures.

Investor Protection vs. Strategy: Officially, the banks cite investor protection. Gold experienced extraordinary volatility after surging to nearly 5,500 dollar per ounce in early 2026 before retreating below 4,000 dollar by late June, exposing retail investors to significant losses. Yet many analysts believe investor protection is only part of the story.

Paper-gold products allow investors to speculate on gold prices without ever owning or taking delivery of physical metal. By shrinking this market, Beijing is reducing speculative price distortions and steering price discovery toward actual physical demand. The strategy favors investors and institutions holding real bullion while discouraging leveraged financial bets that can amplify volatility. In effect, China appears determined to make physical ownership—not financial speculation—the foundation of its gold market.

Building the Infrastructure for a Physical Market

China is simultaneously constructing the infrastructure needed to support this transition. A Hong Kong-based gold futures clearing platform, backed by physical vaults in Shanghai, is scheduled to begin operations in July 2026.

The initiative complements the Shanghai Gold Exchange (SGE), whose contracts require the delivery of actual gold bars rather than purely financial settlement. This represents a fundamental contrast with the dominant futures market in New York, where fewer than 1 percent of gold contracts result in physical delivery. Most positions are simply closed or rolled over before expiry.

The Structural Shift: Markets built around physical delivery are more directly influenced by actual supply and demand, whereas paper markets can experience price movements driven largely by financial speculation. If Shanghai increasingly becomes the benchmark for physical gold pricing, countries producing large quantities of bullion—particularly those in Africa—could gain greater influence over global markets.

Africa’s Strategic Role

Africa occupies a unique position in this emerging landscape. According to the United Nations Environment Programme, nearly 40 percent of the world’s remaining underground gold reserves are located across the continent. Much of this resource has yet to be extracted, giving African producers enormous long-term strategic importance as demand for physical bullion continues to rise.

Rising Global and Central Bank Demand

Chinese demand has already been strengthening for years. The People’s Bank of China added gold to its reserves for 18 consecutive months through April 2026, increasing official holdings to more than 2,300 tonnes.

The trend extends well beyond China. Data from the World Gold Council show that central banks collectively purchased 244 tonnes of gold during the first quarter of 2026 alone, reflecting a broader global movement toward reserve diversification. As more central banks accumulate bullion instead of selling it, available market supply tightens, reinforcing upward pressure on prices.

African Central Banks Adopt Domestic Gold Programs

The shift is no longer confined to Asia. Several African governments have launched programs to purchase domestically mined gold directly from producers, often paying in local currency rather than using scarce U.S. dollar reserves.

Tanzania: Has accumulated approximately 27.5 tonnes since September 2023.

Ghana: Strengthened its strategy by passing the Gold Reserve Act in February 2026, directing domestically mined gold into national reserves while also supporting foreign exchange earnings.

Zimbabwe: Has gone even further by backing its ZiG currency with a combination of gold and foreign exchange reserves.

These initiatives serve multiple objectives. They strengthen national reserve assets, reduce pressure on foreign exchange markets, support local mining industries, and gradually increase governments’ control over strategic mineral resources. Every tonne placed into central bank vaults instead of international markets reduces available supply, contributing to tighter global conditions.

Gold and the De-Dollarization Movement

China’s gold strategy also reflects a broader geopolitical calculation. For years, Beijing has steadily reduced its exposure to U.S. government debt. By November 2025, Chinese holdings of U.S. Treasury securities had declined to approximately USD 683 billion, their lowest level since 2008. Gold has increasingly filled that role.

According to the European Central Bank, gold surpassed U.S. Treasury securities in late 2025 to become the world’s largest reserve asset by market value. Gold represented roughly 27 percent of official global reserve assets compared with 22 percent for U.S. Treasuries—the first time gold had occupied the top position since 1996. Rather than relying exclusively on dollar-denominated assets, many central banks are increasingly treating physical bullion as a strategic reserve capable of providing protection against geopolitical uncertainty, inflation, and financial sanctions.

The Rise of a Pan-African Yuan Architecture

China’s strategy extends beyond precious metals. On June 26, 2026, Standard Bank, Africa’s largest lender, and ICBC launched the continent’s first pan-African yuan clearing hub, enabling businesses across Africa to settle transactions with Chinese partners directly in yuan instead of first converting payments into U.S. dollars.

The development builds upon a series of broader initiatives. Beijing eliminated tariffs on imports from 53 African countries beginning May 1, 2026, while several governments have expanded the yuan’s role in public finance:

Kenya: Converted approximately 3.5 billion dollar of Chinese loans into yuan in late 2025, reportedly reducing annual interest costs by roughly 215 million dollar.

Zambia: Has also begun accepting yuan for mining royalties and tax payments.

These changes do not replace the dollar overnight, but they gradually establish an alternative financial network linking African commodities, Chinese markets, and yuan-denominated trade.

Moving Up the Value Chain

Despite possessing enormous mineral wealth, African countries continue to capture only a fraction of gold’s total economic value. Most gold mined on the continent is exported in relatively unprocessed form, particularly to the United Kingdom, where it is refined, traded, certified, and ultimately priced through international financial markets. As a result, African producers often remain concentrated at the lowest-value segment of the supply chain, while the most profitable activities—including refining, trading, financing, and price discovery—occur abroad.

If China’s physical gold ecosystem expands successfully, African governments could find themselves in a stronger negotiating position. However, ownership of underground resources alone does not automatically translate into economic power. The greater opportunity lies in developing domestic refining industries, strengthening bullion reserves, and participating directly in global pricing mechanisms.

Restructuring the African Mining Sector

Several African governments have already begun restructuring their mining sectors:

Alliance of Sahel States: Member states—Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger—have increased state ownership in mining operations and revised mining legislation to retain a larger share of resource revenues.

Guinea and Namibia: Have introduced restrictions on exports of unprocessed ores in an effort to encourage domestic refining and industrial development.

Ghana: Has pursued a different approach by integrating artisanal miners into formal supply chains while directing production toward official national reserves.

Financial Volatility and Real Risks

Yet these strategies carry financial risks. Accumulating gold reserves exposes central banks to significant price volatility. Ghana’s own gold programs reportedly generated approximately 629 million dollar in net losses between 2022 and 2024, illustrating that while gold can strengthen long-term reserve positions, it can also produce substantial short-term financial losses during periods of market correction.

A Clear Strategic Trajectory

For now, the U.S. dollar continues to dominate African trade, international borrowing, and global reserve holdings. The yuan remains an important complement rather than a direct replacement. Nevertheless, the trajectory is becoming increasingly clear. China is constructing an integrated financial architecture that combines physical gold markets, yuan-denominated trade, and African mineral resources into a single strategic system. By encouraging physical bullion ownership, expanding gold-based financial infrastructure, and deepening monetary ties with African economies, Beijing is gradually challenging the institutions that have governed global gold pricing for decades.

Whether this transformation ultimately shifts the balance of global financial power will depend not only on China’s success, but also on Africa’s choices. The continent possesses the world’s richest undeveloped gold reserves. The critical question is whether African nations will leverage this moment to move up the value chain—through refining, reserve accumulation, and pricing power—or continue exporting raw wealth while the highest-value activities remain offshore.

FAQ’s

Why is China shutting down retail paper-gold trading?
China is reducing speculative paper-gold trading to encourage ownership of physical bullion. Officials cite investor protection amid recent price volatility, while analysts believe the move is part of a broader strategy to shift gold price discovery toward physical demand rather than financial speculation.

2. How does Africa fit into China’s long-term gold strategy?
Africa holds nearly 40% of the world’s remaining underground gold reserves, making it central to China’s strategy. Beijing is strengthening financial ties with African nations through yuan-based trade, gold purchases, and investment in mining, helping create an alternative global gold ecosystem.

3. What role does the Shanghai Gold Exchange play in this transformation?
Unlike many Western futures markets, the Shanghai Gold Exchange emphasizes physical delivery of gold. China is expanding this model through new clearing infrastructure, aiming to make Shanghai a leading global center for physical gold pricing and reduce reliance on London and New York benchmarks.

4. How is China’s gold strategy linked to de-dollarization?
China is combining physical gold accumulation, yuan-denominated settlements, and reduced holdings of U.S. Treasury securities to lessen dependence on the U.S. dollar. This approach supports the internationalization of the yuan while offering countries an alternative reserve and trade system.

5. What could be the global impact if China’s strategy succeeds?
If successful, China could shift global gold price discovery toward physical bullion markets, strengthen the yuan’s role in international trade, increase Africa’s influence in the gold supply chain, and gradually reduce the dominance of Western financial institutions in the global precious metals market.

Gold prices staged a modest recovery on Friday, capitalizing on a retreating U.S. dollar and easing inflation anxieties, though the precious metal remained firmly on track for its fourth consecutive weekly loss. While the cooling U.S. Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) data offered brief respite to bullion traders by slightly lowering September interest rate hike expectations, broader monetary tightening pressures continue to cap gold’s long-term upside.

Check out the latest Gold, Silver prices in MCX, International Market, Sarafa and your city on our new website– https://goldpricetodaynews.com/

Cooling U.S. PCE Inflation Triggers Short-Term Gold Rally

Spot gold (XAU) climbed 1.3% to settle at 4,077.64 dollar per ounce, while U.S. gold futures for August delivery closed 1.2% higher at 4,096.30 dollar.

The upward movement was primarily triggered by a softer U.S. dollar index, which pulled back from recent highs following the release of the Federal Reserve’s preferred inflation metric. The U.S. Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) Price Index rose 4.1% year-on-year through May, landing exactly in line with Wall Street consensus estimates.

Following the data release, the market’s implied probability of a Federal Reserve interest rate hike in September adjusted downward:

Previous Expectations: 64% chance of a September hike.

Current Pricing: 59% chance of a September hike (Source: CME Group’s FedWatch Tool).

“Gold is seeing a modest rebound after coming under severe selling pressure earlier this week,” noted Jim Wyckoff, senior market analyst at the American Gold Exchange.

Macro Headwinds: Interest Rates and Energy Markets

Despite Friday’s gains, gold values fell 2.1% across the week, having hit a fresh seven-month low during mid-week trading. The primary headwinds for the non-yielding asset remain high bond yields and aggressive central bank policies.

In a note to institutional clients, commodity strategists at TD Securities highlighted a dual threat to the metal’s multi-month outlook:

The Energy Dynamic: A strong inverse relationship persists between gold, rising crude oil prices, and the USD.

The Forecast: Sustained momentum in global energy markets is expected to maintain downward pressure on precious metals through the third quarter.

Global Physical Demand Shifts: India vs. China

The recent price correction altered dynamics in major Asian physical gold markets:

India: Domestic prices flipped to a premium for the first time in six weeks as retail buyers and jewelers took advantage of the price retreat to restock inventory.

China: Demand in the world’s top bullion consumer remained heavily subdued amid ongoing macroeconomic headwinds.

Other Precious Metals Performance

The broader precious metals complex mirrored gold’s Friday rebound, though all closed the week deep in negative territory:

Spot Silver: 59.12 dollar per ounce — Daily Gain: +2.2% | Weekly Outlook: Weekly Loss

Platinum: 1,632.80 dollar per ounce — Daily Gain: +2.0% | Weekly Outlook: Weekly Loss

Palladium: 1,213.87 dollar per ounce — Daily Gain: +2.5% | Weekly Outlook: Weekly Loss

FAQ’s

1. Why did gold prices rise on Friday despite recent weakness?
Gold prices gained after the U.S. dollar weakened and the latest U.S. PCE inflation data met market expectations, easing concerns over an aggressive Federal Reserve rate hike in September.

2. Why is gold still heading for a fourth consecutive weekly loss?
Although gold rebounded on Friday, it remained under pressure throughout the week due to high bond yields, restrictive central bank policies, and expectations that interest rates could stay elevated for longer.

3. How did the latest U.S. PCE inflation data affect market expectations?
The U.S. PCE Price Index rose 4.1% year-on-year, matching forecasts. Following the data, the implied probability of a September Federal Reserve rate hike declined from 64% to 59%, providing short-term support to gold.

4. How did physical gold demand differ between India and China?
India witnessed stronger physical gold demand as lower prices encouraged jewelers and retail buyers to replenish inventories, while demand in China remained weak due to persistent macroeconomic challenges.

5. How did other precious metals perform during the week?
Silver, platinum, and palladium all recorded solid gains on Friday, with silver rising 2.2%, platinum 2.0%, and palladium 2.5%. However, all three precious metals still finished the week in negative territory after earlier declines.

Gold extended its downward trajectory on Wednesday, tumbling to its lowest level in nearly two weeks as a surging U.S. dollar, fueled by aggressive market bets on impending Federal Reserve interest rate hikes, severely dented the metal’s appeal. The main theme gripping bullion markets centers on how macro economic pressures—specifically expectations of multiple rate hikes in 2026 and conflicting geopolitical signals surrounding U.S.-Iran peace talks—are rapidly strengthening the greenback and forcing non-yielding gold prices downward.

Check out the latest Gold, Silver prices in MCX, International Market, Sarafa and your city on our new website– https://goldpricetodaynews.com/

The full, official journalistic dispatch detailing the market parameters, trading metrics, and expert analysis is presented below:

Sharp Declines Hit Spot Prices and Gold Futures

Gold extended losses on Wednesday, touching its lowest in almost two weeks as ‌the dollar climbed due to rising bets on U.S. rate hikes, while investors assessed conflicting signals on U.S.-Iran peace talks.

Spot gold fell 0.7% to 4,081.24 dollar per ounce by 0751 GMT, having earlier hit its lowest since June 11. U.S. gold futures for August delivery declined 1.2% to 4,098.70 dollar.

Geopolitical Friction Destabilizes Fragile U.S.-Iran Peace Deal

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that Iran had agreed to nuclear inspections into “infinity,” while Tehran said it had made no such concession in negotiations, raising questions about the viability of their fragile peace deal.

The two sides also disagreed on the details of a provision that would allow Iran access to funds frozen in overseas accounts.

“What we’re witnessing here is the evolution of the pressure that gold came under as a function of the war,” said Ilya Spivak, head of global macro at Tastylive. “The sort of inflation to higher rates dynamic has appeared in bonds falling, yields rising, the dollar rising, and gold falling.”

Federal Reserve Policy Shifts the Inflation Hedge Dynamic

Bullion has fallen about 23% since the start of the U.S.-Israeli war on ‌Iran in late February, as mounting inflationary pressure has given way to expectations of interest rate hikes by the U.S. Federal Reserve. While gold is traditionally seen as an inflation hedge, it loses its appeal as a non-yielding asset in a high-interest-rate environment.

The dollar hit a more than one-year high, making bullion more expensive for overseas buyers. Traders are pricing in three Fed rate increases this year, compared with bets of one hike before last week’s Fed meeting, according to the CME FedWatch Tool.

Critical Inflation Benchmarks and Technical Support Levels Ahead

Investors now await the U.S. Personal Consumption Expenditures data, the Fed’s preferred inflation gauge, due on Thursday, for further cues on monetary policy.

“If we continue to mostly focus on inflation and we take out the 4,000 dollar level, then we’re going to be in the direction of 3,800 dollar, and we’re going to have a conversation about whether a test of 3,500 dollar follows next,” Spivak said.

Broader Precious Metals Market Performance

The downward momentum across the commodities sector also pulled down alternative precious metals. Spot silver fell 0.4% to 61.80 dollar per ounce, platinum lost 0.6% to 1,641.35 dollar, and palladium dropped 1.3% to 1,221.71 dollar.

FAQ’s

1. Why did gold prices fall to a two-week low?
Gold prices declined primarily because the U.S. dollar strengthened significantly as traders increased bets on Federal Reserve interest rate hikes. Higher interest rates tend to reduce the attractiveness of gold, which does not generate yield, leading investors to shift toward interest-bearing assets.

2. How are Federal Reserve rate hike expectations affecting the gold market?
Markets are now pricing in as many as three U.S. interest rate increases this year. Higher rates generally support the U.S. dollar and Treasury yields, making gold less attractive as an investment and putting downward pressure on bullion prices.

3. What role are U.S.-Iran peace talks playing in gold price movements?
Conflicting statements from Washington and Tehran regarding nuclear inspections and access to frozen Iranian funds have created uncertainty about the future of the peace agreement. While geopolitical tensions can support safe-haven demand for gold, current market focus remains on monetary policy and interest rate expectations.

4. What key economic data are investors watching next?
Investors are closely monitoring the upcoming U.S. Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) report, the Federal Reserve’s preferred inflation measure. The data could provide important clues about future monetary policy decisions and the likelihood of additional interest rate hikes.

5. How did other precious metals perform alongside gold?
The broader precious metals market also weakened. Spot silver fell to 61.80 dollar per ounce, platinum declined to 1,641.35 dollar per ounce, and palladium dropped to 1,221.71 dollar per ounce, reflecting widespread pressure across the sector from a stronger dollar and rising rate expectations.

June 19, 2026: Gold prices remain under pressure as fund liquidations continue and gold ETF holdings fall to a 7.25-month low from their February peak. However, strong central bank demand is providing support, with China’s PBOC increasing gold reserves by 320,000 ounces in May, marking its 19th consecutive month of purchases.

The US dollar has officially broken out, rallying to a 13-month high on Thursday as a wave of hawkish Federal Reserve sentiment and better-than-expected domestic economic data fueled aggressive buying. The Dollar Index (DXY) finished the session up by 0.80%, riding a wave of carryover support from Wednesday’s FOMC meeting, where policymakers projected higher interest rates later this year.

This sustained strength in the greenback sent shockwaves across global forex and commodities markets, driving the Euro and Japanese Yen to multi-month lows while triggering a sharp selloff in precious metals.

What is Driving the Dollar’s Breakout?

Thursday’s rally was heavily supported by a string of positive US economic indicators that reinforced the Fed’s “higher for longer” narrative regarding interest rates:

Labor Market Resilience: US weekly initial unemployment claims fell by 4,000 to 226,000, aligning closely with market expectations of 225,000.

Manufacturing Beat: The June Philadelphia Fed business outlook survey surged by +10.7 points to reach 10.3, comfortably beating Wall Street expectations of 10.0.

Leading Indicators: US May leading indicators rose by +0.1% month-over-month, perfectly matching forecasts.

Currently, swaps markets are pricing in a 36% probability of a 25 basis point rate move at the upcoming July 28-29 FOMC meeting.

However, the dollar did face some structural headwinds. A significant drop in WTI crude oil prices to a 3.5-month low has lowered inflation expectations, which could eventually give the Fed room to pursue easier monetary policy. Additionally, a concurrent rally in the stock market slightly reduced the broader liquidity demand for the safe-haven dollar.

Global Currency Impact: Euro and Yen Tumble

The sheer strength of the US dollar weighed heavily on major global currency pairs.

EUR/USD Hits 2.5-Month Low: The Euro fell by 0.40% to touch a 2.5-month low against the dollar. Losses were partially cushioned by hawkish commentary from European Central Bank (ECB) Governing Council member Martin Kocher. Kocher stated that consumer prices in the Eurozone will remain elevated for some time, despite a newly brokered agreement to end the war in the Middle East. He stressed that the ECB stands ready to act to ensure inflation returns to its 2% target. Currently, markets are pricing in just a 17% chance of a 25 basis point rate hike at the ECB’s July 23 meeting.

USD/JPY Soars to 23-Month High: The Japanese Yen took a significant hit, tumbling to a 23-month low against the dollar as the USD/JPY pair rose 0.67%. Beyond the Fed’s hawkish stance, a record-breaking rally in the Nikkei Stock Index severely reduced safe-haven demand for the yen. With the currency now sitting firmly above the psychological 160-per-dollar threshold, intervention risks are mounting. Japanese authorities have historically stepped into the forex market to prop up the currency at these levels.

Gold and Silver Suffer Aggressive Selloff

The surging dollar and shifting geopolitical landscape created a hostile environment for precious metals. August COMEX gold closed down by 3.09%, while July COMEX silver plummeted 6.29%.

The selloff was triggered by three primary bearish factors:

The 13-Month High in the DXY: A stronger dollar makes dollar-denominated metals more expensive for international buyers.

Hawkish FOMC Spillover: Expectations of higher interest rates increase the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding assets like gold and silver.

Middle East Peace Deal: President Trump’s signing of a preliminary deal to end the war in the Middle East sparked a massive rally in equities, draining safe-haven capital away from precious metals.

Fund liquidations are further pressuring prices. Long holdings in gold ETFs dropped to a 7.25-month low, retreating significantly from their 3.5-year peak in late February.

Despite the immediate bearish action, underlying physical demand remains a potential floor for prices. China’s central bank (PBOC) continues its aggressive accumulation, with its bullion reserves rising by 320,000 ounces to 74.96 million troy ounces in May. This marks the largest monthly increase in 17 months and the PBOC’s 19th consecutive month of boosting its gold reserves.

FAQ’s

1. Why are gold prices facing pressure despite strong demand from central banks?
Gold prices are being weighed down by heavy fund liquidations and declining investor interest in gold ETFs. These investment outflows are offsetting some of the positive impact created by strong central bank purchases.

2. What is happening with gold ETF holdings?
Long positions in gold ETFs have dropped to a 7.25-month low, retreating sharply from the 3.5-year high recorded in late February. This suggests investors are reducing exposure to gold amid changing market conditions.

3. How much gold did China’s central bank buy in May?
The People’s Bank of China (PBOC) added approximately 320,000 ounces of gold to its reserves in May, taking total holdings to 74.96 million troy ounces.

4. Why is China continuing to accumulate gold reserves?
China has been steadily increasing its gold holdings to diversify reserve assets, reduce reliance on foreign currencies, and strengthen long-term financial stability amid global economic and geopolitical uncertainties.

5. How could China’s gold purchases affect the gold market?
Continuous buying by the PBOC provides a strong source of physical demand and may help limit downside risks for gold prices. Central bank purchases often act as a supportive factor when investor sentiment weakens.

Gold has emerged as the world's leading reserve asset, surpassing US Treasury holdings in central bank reserves, according to the ECB. Rising geopolitical risks, growing US debt, and reserve diversification strategies are driving demand for gold. The trend highlights increasing interest in alternatives to the dollar-based financial system.

Gold Reserve Asset: A quiet revolution is unfolding at the very foundation of global finance, and the weapon of choice is a timeless precious metal. In a historic shift that directly challenges decades of American economic supremacy, gold has officially dethroned US Treasury paper to become the world’s principal reserve asset. This tectonic movement signals that a global appetite for a post-dollar world is rapidly accelerating, threatening the structural foundation of US financial hegemony.

According to a groundbreaking report from the European Central Bank (ECB), gold now accounts for more than a quarter of all foreign reserves held by global central banks. While private assets and international trade settlements remain firmly anchored to the greenback for now, this milestone marks a staggering decline in sovereign trust. At the turn of the century, American assets commanded over 70% of central bank reserve portfolios; today, that figure has plummeted to just over 40%.

The Anatomy of a Sovereign Shift

The meteoric rise in gold’s value—which has doubled over the last two years—is not merely a passive market trend. Instead, it is being actively propelled by institutional demand as central banks aggressively de-risk their portfolios.

Several factors are driving world economies away from the dollar and toward bullion:

Escalating US Risk: Soaring American national debt, widening deficits, and unpredictable domestic politics have injected unprecedented vulnerability into holding dollar-denominated assets.

Alternative Trade Ecosystems: Countries are increasingly bypassing the dollar through bilateral trade agreements. China’s Cross-Border Interbank Payment System (CIPS), for instance, has seen its market share double in just three years.

The Appeal of the Yuan: Because China frequently runs trade deficits with developing nations, these countries are highly incentivized to trade in yuan, using it directly to settle imports and clear Chinese loans.

The Vulnerability of a ‘Lazy Hegemon’

To understand why this gold rush poses an existential threat to US financial dominance, economists point to a stark historical contrast. When the British pound reigned supreme in the 19th and 20th centuries, the UK acted as a “hard-working hegemon,” running massive trade surpluses that it reinvested globally.

In contrast, the United States has evolved into what can be described as a “lazy hegemon.” The modern American economic boom is funded not by manufacturing dominance, but by borrowing from the rest of the world to finance its persistent trade deficits. Over the past decade alone, US net international liabilities have doubled to a staggering 30 trillion dollar.

The Structural Risk: The roaring US stock market and domestic wealth are heavily fueled by these massive global inflows. If central banks continue to pull their funds out of US accounts and convert them into gold, this flow of money could reverse—leaving the fragile American credit system highly exposed.

A Story Just Beginning

Historically, the US has managed to sustain this model because it maintained a net positive income flow from its foreign investments. However, as global interest rates climb, that net income surplus is rapidly eroding toward zero.

The early birds of global finance are already quietly pulling their worms from US accounts and burying them in gold. While the complete displacement of the US dollar will take years to fully unfold, the current gold rush is no longer a temporary hedge—it is the opening chapter of a major realignment in global financial power.

FAQ’s

1. Why are central banks increasing their gold reserves?
Central banks are buying more gold to diversify their reserves and reduce exposure to risks associated with dollar-denominated assets. Rising US debt levels, fiscal deficits, geopolitical tensions, and economic uncertainty have made gold an increasingly attractive safe-haven asset.

2. Has gold officially become a larger reserve asset than US Treasuries?
Yes. According to the European Central Bank (ECB), gold now accounts for more than a quarter of global central bank foreign reserves, surpassing US Treasury holdings and marking a significant milestone in the evolution of international reserve management.

3. Does this mean the US dollar is no longer the world’s dominant currency?
No. The US dollar remains the dominant global currency, accounting for a large share of international trade, financial transactions, and private-sector assets. However, the growing shift toward gold suggests that some countries are seeking alternatives to reduce dependence on the dollar.

4. What role does China play in the move away from the dollar?
China is promoting alternative financial systems such as the Cross-Border Interbank Payment System (CIPS) and expanding the use of the yuan in international trade. Many developing nations increasingly use yuan for trade settlements, imports, and loan repayments, supporting gradual diversification away from the dollar.

5. Why could increased gold buying create challenges for the United States?
The US economy benefits from foreign capital flowing into dollar-denominated assets. If central banks continue reallocating reserves from US assets into gold, it could reduce demand for American financial assets, potentially increasing funding pressures and exposing vulnerabilities in the US credit and financial system over time.

The declining global reserve share of the U.S. dollar is raising concerns about the future of the international monetary system. As confidence in fiat currencies weakens, central banks are rapidly increasing gold purchases. Analysts believe gold and silver could benefit significantly from any long-term shift away from dollar dominance worldwide.

US Dollar Reserve Status: For over eight decades, the U.S. dollar has reigned as the undisputed anchor of global trade, but a recurring historical pattern suggests that this era of dominance may be approaching a dramatic conclusion. As the greenback’s share of global foreign exchange reserves continues its steady decline, investors are increasingly asking: What happens to gold and silver when the dollar loses its reserve status? History indicates that such transitions are rarely subtle; they represent massive shifts in global economic power, often resulting in a profound migration of capital toward “hard money” assets that carry no counterparty risk.

A System Under Strain: The Erosion of Fiat Trust

The current global monetary architecture, established in 1944 and severed from gold in 1971, is well past the typical 30-to-40-year lifespan of modern currency systems. Today, the “dollar standard” faces structural fragility that is increasingly visible to institutional players:

Declining Reserves: The dollar’s share of global reserves has drifted from a 72% peak in 2001 to approximately 57% today.

The Fiat Domino Effect: Because major currencies like the Euro and Yen are backed by the same government promises as the dollar, a crisis in the world’s primary reserve currency often triggers a global crisis of confidence in all paper money.

Central Bank Accumulation: Realizing the shift, central banks have purchased over 1,000 tonnes of gold annually for three consecutive years (2022–2024), double the pace of the previous decade.

Why Precious Metals Become the New Anchor

When a reserve currency fails, capital does not simply vanish—it seeks a safe haven that cannot be printed or devalued by any single government. Gold and silver have outlasted every monetary transition in human history.

Gold: The Ultimate Monetary Anchor

In a transition away from the dollar, gold serves a dual purpose. It benefits directly from a weakening dollar (since gold is priced in USD), but more importantly, it offers the only liquid, universally recognized asset capable of anchoring a new monetary system. A 2025 survey revealed that 95% of central banks expect global gold reserves to continue increasing over the next 12 months.

Silver: The Crisis Amplifier

Silver often acts as a high-beta version of gold during monetary stress. During the stagflation of the 1970s—the last major era of dollar instability—silver surged from under 2 dollar to nearly 50 dollar per ounce. Its dual role as both a monetary asset and a critical industrial metal provides a unique demand profile that can accelerate gains during a flight to safety.

Historical Lessons: From Sterling to the Dollar

The transition away from a dominant currency is rarely overnight. When the British pound lost its status after 1945, the process took nearly thirty years, punctuated by devaluations and a 1976 IMF bailout. However, the current shift is structurally different: unlike previous transitions that moved between gold-linked currencies, we are now moving away from a system backed by nothing but government promises.

History shows that the greatest benefits go to those who position themselves before a crisis becomes front-page news. As the 2026 economic landscape shifts, the accumulation of physical bullion represents more than just a hedge—it is an insurance policy against the structural reorganization of the global financial order.

FAQ’s

1. Why is the U.S. dollar’s reserve currency status being questioned?
The U.S. dollar’s share of global foreign exchange reserves has declined from nearly 72% in 2001 to around 57% today. Rising debt levels, inflation concerns, and growing geopolitical tensions have increased doubts about the long-term stability of the current dollar-based monetary system.

2. Why are central banks buying large amounts of gold?
Central banks are increasing gold reserves because gold is considered a safe-haven asset that carries no counterparty risk. Unlike paper currencies, gold cannot be printed or controlled by any single government, making it attractive during periods of economic uncertainty and currency instability.

3. How could gold benefit if the dollar weakens further?
Gold typically gains when the U.S. dollar weakens because it is priced in dollars globally. In times of monetary uncertainty, investors often move capital into gold as a store of value, which can increase demand and push prices higher.

4. Why is silver considered important during monetary crises?
Silver acts as both a precious metal and an industrial commodity, giving it a unique demand profile. Historically, silver has shown stronger percentage gains during periods of inflation and economic instability, especially when investors seek alternatives to traditional currencies.

5. What historical examples show reserve currency transitions?
One major example is the decline of the British pound after World War II, when the U.S. dollar gradually replaced it as the world’s dominant reserve currency. Experts note that such transitions usually take years and are often accompanied by economic uncertainty, inflation, and shifts toward hard assets like gold.
