The natural diamond industry is entering a new phase as changing consumer preferences, digital discovery and the growing presence of synthetic diamonds reshape the luxury market. Against this backdrop, the Natural Diamond Council has announced a major transformation, relaunching as The Diamond Collective with a strategy focused on rebuilding desire and strengthening long-term demand for natural diamonds.

Check the latest rates for gold and silver—including MCX, international market, and bullion prices, as well as rates in your city—on our new website: https://goldpricetodaynews.com/

Natural Diamond Council Introduces The Diamond Collective

On September 22, 2026, the Natural Diamond Council officially announced its transition to The Diamond Collective, unveiling a new global strategy designed to reconnect natural diamonds with culture, strengthen consumer confidence and support their long-term relevance.

The strategy has been developed under new CEO Amber Pepper following six months of consultations with producers, retailers, brands, creatives and consumers across the industry.

The organisation said the new approach aims to move beyond simply defending the natural diamond category and instead focus on creating renewed consumer desire and converting that interest into sustained demand.

Three Key Priorities Behind the New Strategy

The Diamond Collective’s global strategy is built around three central priorities: Unite, Protect and Inspire.

Unite: Bringing the Diamond Industry Together

The organisation plans to bring producers, retailers, brands, designers and emerging voices together around common priorities for industry growth.

The broader participation model is intended to give organisations throughout the natural diamond value chain a greater role in shaping and supporting the category’s future.

Protect: Strengthening Consumer Confidence

The Diamond Collective will focus on improving clarity and transparency for consumers while addressing misinformation surrounding diamonds.

A key part of this strategy will be clearly communicating the differences between natural diamonds and synthetic diamonds, while strengthening consumer trust through facts and evidence.

Inspire: Creating New Desire for Natural Diamonds

The third priority is focused on culture, creativity and storytelling. The Diamond Collective plans to develop globally connected campaigns designed to make natural diamonds more relevant to consumers and create a clearer path from discovery to consideration and purchase.

New Global Programmes to Support Natural Diamond Demand

The strategy will be implemented through a new range of global initiatives. These will include culturally relevant campaigns, the introduction of a universal Trustmark, stronger origin and provenance stories, renewed partnerships with retailers and brands, and greater investment in artificial intelligence and digital discovery.

The organisation also plans to strengthen evidence-based responses to misinformation, highlight producer nations and establish new platforms for collective industry leadership.

Further initiatives and additional senior appointments are expected to be announced in the coming months.

Diamond Desire Index to Track Consumer Sentiment

One of the key initiatives will be the launch of a new Diamond Desire Index.

The index will initially establish a baseline across the US, India and China. It will monitor consumer consideration, purchase intent, sentiment and recommendation to provide a consistent international measure of how consumers view natural diamonds.

The Diamond Collective said the index will also support annual reporting on changes in consumer behaviour and demand.

Amber Pepper Outlines Vision for The Diamond Collective

Commenting on the new strategy, Amber Pepper, CEO of The Diamond Collective, said:

“Natural diamonds are among the Earth’s rarest treasures, formed deep beneath its surface over billions of years. Each is entirely unique, yet their greatest value lies in the meaning we give them: the people, promises and moments we never want to forget.

“Since taking on this role, I have listened to people across our industry and beyond. Their insight, experience and belief in natural diamonds have shaped this strategy. What I have heard gives me enormous confidence in the opportunity ahead and a clear sense that we will only realise it by acting together.

“The Diamond Collective will build on that shared ambition: to bring the extraordinary story of natural diamonds into culture, strengthen trust in what makes them unique and inspire a new generation to choose them. This is how we will transform enduring emotional desire into lasting demand.”

The Diamond Collective Name Will Become Its Public Identity

Although The Diamond Collective will become the organisation’s public-facing name in most markets, the Natural Diamond Council will remain its legal entity.

The organisation described the change as more than a simple rebranding exercise. It represents a shift toward a consumer-first and evidence-led operating model designed around greater collaboration across the natural diamond industry.

Industry Participation to Expand Under New Model

The new strategy also introduces a wider participation structure through which companies and organisations across the value chain can contribute expertise, perspectives and resources.

According to the organisation, this model is intended to create broader industry involvement in developing and implementing initiatives aimed at supporting the long-term growth of natural diamonds.

The Diamond Collective’s Role in the Natural Diamond Industry

The Diamond Collective describes itself as a global, industry-funded not-for-profit focused on the future of natural diamonds.

It aims to bring together the people, stories and expertise associated with natural diamonds while focusing on three broad goals: inspiring consumer desire, protecting consumer confidence and uniting the industry around a shared ambition to encourage more consumers to choose natural diamonds more often.

FAQ’s

1. Why has the Natural Diamond Council relaunched as The Diamond Collective?

The Natural Diamond Council has adopted The Diamond Collective as its public-facing name in most markets as part of a broader strategic transformation. The organisation says the new identity reflects a consumer-first, evidence-led and collaborative approach aimed at strengthening the long-term relevance and demand for natural diamonds.

2. What are the three priorities of The Diamond Collective’s new strategy?

The strategy is built around Unite, Protect and Inspire. Unite focuses on bringing industry participants together, Protect aims to strengthen consumer confidence and address misinformation, while Inspire focuses on culture, creativity and storytelling to generate renewed interest in natural diamonds.

3. What is the Diamond Desire Index?

The Diamond Desire Index is a new measurement programme designed to track consumer attitudes and behaviour toward natural diamonds. It will initially establish a baseline in the US, India and China, measuring areas such as consideration, purchase intent, sentiment and recommendation.

4. Will the Natural Diamond Council cease to exist legally?

No. While The Diamond Collective will become the organisation’s public-facing name in most markets, the Natural Diamond Council will remain its legal entity. The organisation has described the change as a strategic transformation rather than simply a change of name.

5. What new initiatives will The Diamond Collective introduce?

Planned initiatives include culturally relevant global campaigns, a universal Trustmark, stronger origin and provenance narratives, renewed retailer and brand partnerships, investment in AI and digital discovery, evidence-led responses to misinformation and new opportunities for broader industry participation.

Natural Diamond Council: In a major victory for consumer transparency and the global natural diamond industry, the Natural Diamond Council (NDC) has successfully challenged misleading advertising practices by synthetic diamond retailers in the United Kingdom. The UK’s advertising regulator has ruled that companies selling laboratory-grown diamonds must clearly disclose the synthetic nature of their products, reinforcing stricter standards for jewellery marketing and consumer protection.

UK Advertising Watchdog Rules Against Synthetic Diamond Retailers

The Natural Diamond Council announced on May 15, 2026, that the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) upheld complaints filed against two jewellery retailers — UK-based Novita Diamonds and Hong Kong-based Linjer Ltd — for failing to clearly identify their products as laboratory-grown diamonds.

The not-for-profit organisation, which works to protect and promote the integrity of the global natural diamond industry, argued that the advertisements misled consumers by using the term “diamond” without proper qualifiers such as “synthetic,” “laboratory-grown,” or “laboratory-created.”

On May 13, 2026, the ASA ruled that both companies had breached the UK Code of Non-broadcast Advertising and Direct & Promotional Marketing (CAP Code).

As part of the ruling, both companies were instructed to remove the advertisements and ensure they do not appear again in the same format. The regulator also directed the retailers not to use the term “diamond” in isolation when referring to synthetic diamonds without a clear and prominent qualifier.

Natural Diamond Council Calls It a “Victory for Consumers”

Reacting to the ruling, Natural Diamond Council CEO Amber Pepper said, “This is a victory for consumers, Diamonds carry deep emotional significance and are often bought to mark life’s meaningful moments. It’s vital that consumers can make informed choices in total confidence. This is not the first time we have successfully challenged advertising that blurs the distinction between mass-produced products grown in a factory and products of nature formed deep in the Earth over billions of years. We applaud the regulator for once again standing up for consumers – something we too will continue to do as part of our wider mission to educate and inspire people on the values of natural diamonds and their positive impact.”

Details of the Novita Diamonds Advertisements

he ASA’s ruling against Novita Diamonds focused on two paid Meta advertisements.

The first ad displayed a diamond engagement ring alongside the text:
“Novita Diamonds Ready-to-Ship Engagement Rings 1-10 days.”

The second advertisement featured a video showcasing diamond rings with on-screen phrases including:
“Premium Diamonds”
and
“Shop our ready-to-ship collection today – Novita Diamonds.”

The regulator concluded that the advertisements failed to make it sufficiently clear that the products being marketed were synthetic diamonds.

Linjer Google Ads Also Found Misleading

The complaint against Hong Kong-based Linjer Ltd related to two paid Google advertisements. Both ads included the phrase:
“Discover our brilliant diamonds.”

The ASA determined that the wording could mislead consumers into believing the products were natural diamonds because the advertisements did not prominently clarify that the diamonds were laboratory-grown

Key Diamond Terminology Guidelines Referenced by ASA

In both rulings, the ASA referenced the National Association of Jewellers’ (NAJ) Diamond Terminology Guideline, which is recognised and assured by UK Trading Standards.

The guidelines state that companies selling synthetic diamonds must:

Use authorised qualifiers such as:

“synthetic”

“laboratory-grown”

“laboratory-created”

Avoid abbreviations such as:

“lab-grown”

“lab-created”

Avoid terms including:

“cultured diamonds”

“cultivated diamonds”

because these terms are associated with organic or biogenic products. The guidance also prohibits the use of words such as:

“real”

“genuine”

“precious”

“authentic”

“natural”

when referring to synthetic diamonds, as these terms apply exclusively to naturally formed minerals and gemstones.

ASA Clarifies Rules for Jewellery Advertisements

The ASA stated that whether a diamond is natural or synthetic is a crucial factor for many consumers when making purchasing decisions.

Because of this, the regulator ruled that companies must provide this information clearly within the advertisement itself, rather than only disclosing it later on a website after consumers click the ad.

The Novita Diamonds ruling also clarified that even if an advertisement does not explicitly mention the word “diamond,” a qualifier is still required if the brand name itself includes the term “Diamonds.”

Meanwhile, the ruling against Linjer demonstrates that UK advertising rules apply to overseas companies targeting UK consumers through paid media platforms such as Meta and Google.

London Diamond Bourse Supports the Decision

David Troostwyk, President of the London Diamond Bourse, which jointly filed the latest complaints alongside the Natural Diamond Council, said the rulings should send a strong message to manufacturers and retailers.

According to Troostwyk, misleading advertising unfairly exploits the emotional and timeless value associated with natural diamonds while confusing consumers. He added that irresponsible advertising practices should not be tolerated within the jewellery industry.

About the Natural Diamond Council

The Natural Diamond Council (NDC) is a global not-for-profit organisation focused on educating consumers about the rarity, authenticity, and responsible sourcing of natural diamonds.

Its platform, “Only Natural Diamonds,” publishes content related to:

Diamond buying guides

Jewellery trends

Celebrity and pop culture stories

Engagements and weddings

Educational resources and myth-busting facts

The organisation also provides marketing and educational support to jewellery brands, retailers, and designers to promote the integrity and value of natural diamonds.

FAQ’s

1. What action did the Natural Diamond Council take against synthetic diamond retailers?
The Natural Diamond Council (NDC) filed complaints with the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) against Novita Diamonds and Linjer Ltd for allegedly misleading consumers by advertising laboratory-grown diamonds without clearly identifying them as synthetic products.

2. What did the UK Advertising Standards Authority rule in this case?
The ASA ruled that both companies breached the UK Code of Non-broadcast Advertising and Direct & Promotional Marketing (CAP Code). The regulator ordered the companies to remove the advertisements and instructed them not to use the word “diamond” without clear qualifiers such as “synthetic” or “laboratory-grown.”

3. Why are the ASA rulings considered significant for consumers?
The rulings are seen as important because they reinforce transparency in jewellery advertising and help consumers clearly distinguish between natural diamonds and laboratory-grown diamonds. Regulators stated that the nature of a diamond is a key factor influencing consumer purchasing decisions.

4. What terminology guidelines must synthetic diamond sellers follow?
According to the National Association of Jewellers’ Diamond Terminology Guideline, retailers must use approved terms such as “synthetic,” “laboratory-grown,” or “laboratory-created.” They are also prohibited from using misleading words like “natural,” “genuine,” “authentic,” or “precious” for synthetic diamonds.

5. How could these rulings impact the global jewellery and diamond industry?
Industry experts believe the rulings could push jewellery retailers worldwide to adopt stricter disclosure standards for synthetic diamonds. The decisions may also strengthen consumer trust, improve transparency in diamond marketing, and increase regulatory scrutiny of online and digital jewellery advertisements.

World Diamond Day, Natural Diamond Council: In an era where the world moves at breakneck speed and authenticity is harder to find, the Natural Diamond Council (NDC) is launching a landmark global movement: World Diamond Day. Set for April 8, 2026, this day is designed to move beyond traditional marketing and focus on the deep human connections, ancient history, and ethical stories behind natural diamonds. By uniting everyone from master artisans to jewelry enthusiasts, World Diamond Day aims to create a collective digital archive of the milestones, heirlooms, and personal memories that make these billion-year-old treasures truly priceless.

The Dawn of a Global Movement

NDC in a statement said “”On this day, everyone is invited to participate, from those who work with diamonds every day to those who wear, gift, or admire them. World Diamond Day is about sharing the personal and meaningful moments that natural diamonds represent. On April 8, simply share your story using #WorldDiamondDay and #NaturalDiamonds to join a global wave of voices celebrating something authentic.”

This is not just another corporate campaign; it is a global movement that invites the world to pause and appreciate the profound stories etched into every natural diamond. From the deep mantle of the Earth to the most cherished moments of our lives, natural diamonds represent a journey of billions of years that culminates in a single, sparkling memory.

Your Voice, Your Story

Participation is the heartbeat of World Diamond Day. On April 8, the NDC invites everyone to join a global wave of voices on social media. The goal is to fill digital feeds with authenticity, moving away from “fast luxury” and toward the enduring symbols of love and connection.

How to join the movement

Capture the Moment: Share a photo or a short video of a diamond piece that holds meaning for you.

The Multi-Faceted Impact

World Diamond Day aims to highlight the diverse and positive roles diamonds play in our world:

The Lens of Authenticity

In a world of replicas, World Diamond Day celebrates the uniqueness of nature. This collective moment is shaped by the people who participate, reflecting the real-life impact and transformation that diamonds bring to individuals and entire communities.

On April 8, the narrative of the natural diamond is handed back to the people. It is a day to see these stones not just as commodities, but as vessels of human meaning and enduring connection.

On 9th February, 2026, the second high-level meeting of the Luanda Accord was held at African Mining Indaba, Cape Town. This meeting brought together different diamond-producing governments and industry stakeholders committed to sustaining investment in protecting and promoting the natural diamond category. The Republic of Namibia became a member of the Luanda Accord at the meeting, while India’s GJEPC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that sets a pathway for GJEPC to become a Natural Diamond Council member by 1st May, 2026. At the same meeting, Uniate Arab Emirates’s DMCC by signing of Letter of Intent, reflecting their intention to become a member of the Natural Diamond Council by 1st May 2026 as well.

WHAT IS THE LUANDA ACCORD?

The Luanda Accord is a collaborative framework uniting diamond-producing governments and key industry stakeholders to support global generic marketing for natural diamonds. Led by the Natural Diamond Council, the Accord is built on the principle that sustaining consumer demand for natural diamonds requires shared responsibility and sustained investment across the entire value chain.

The Accord was formally launched at its inaugural high-level meeting in June 2025, bringing together producing countries and industry leaders from mining, manufacturing, and trading centres. Its core objective is to protect and promote the natural diamond category by ensuring that producing nations and downstream industry participants collectively contribute to telling the true story of natural diamonds—their rarity, authenticity, and positive socio-economic impact.

By signing the Luanda Accord, participants commit to supporting global category marketing efforts in alignment with agreed principles, recognising that no single country or organisation can carry the responsibility alone.

WHAT WILL THIS MEAN OF REPUBLIC OF NAMIBIA?

At the second high-level meeting on 9 February 2026, the Government of the Republic of Namibia formally became a signatory to the Luanda Accord, joining Angola, Botswana, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The move followed Namibia’s earlier expression of support in principle at the first meeting and the completion of all required governmental authorisations.

With a diamond industry dating back to 1908, Namibia is today the fifth largest diamond producer in the world by value and home to a significant cutting and polishing sector. Diamonds have long underpinned Namibia’s economic development, generating employment, supporting local communities, and providing government revenue for infrastructure, healthcare, and education.

Commenting on the decision, Honourable Modestus Amutse, Minister of Industries, Mines and Energy of the Republic of Namibia, said:

“Natural diamonds have helped shape Namibia’s economic story for more than a century, creating jobs, supporting communities, and contributing directly to national development. By joining the Luanda Accord, Namibia is affirming that producing countries have both a stake and a responsibility in telling the true story of natural diamonds. This is about ensuring that the value created by our resources continues to benefit our people, today and for generations to come.”

Following, Amber Pepper, CEO of the Natural Diamond Council, added:

“Namibia’s decision to formally join the Luanda Accord is a powerful signal of leadership from one of the world’s largest diamond-producing nations. Collective action is essential to protect the integrity and desirability of natural diamonds, and Namibia’s commitment strengthens our ability to tell the compelling story of their positive impact.”

HOW WILL THIS AFFECT INDIA?

India’s role in the global natural diamond industry came into sharper focus as the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) and the Natural Diamond Council signed a Memorandum of Understanding outlining a pathway for GJEPC to become a Natural Diamond Councilmember by 1 May 2026.

The MoU, signed by Shaunak Parikh, Vice Chairman, GJEPC, and Amber Pepper, CEO, Natural Diamond Council, is subject to agreement on financial contributions and the completion of legal and regulatory requirements. Accession by May 2026 would enable both organisations to collaborate ahead of the 2026 holiday season, a critical period for consumer demand.

On signing the MoU, Shaunak Parikh, Vice Chairman, GJEPC, said:

“India sits at the heart of the global natural diamond value chain, from cutting and polishing to a fast-growing domestic consumer market. Joining forces with the Natural Diamond Council reflects our belief that the future of natural diamonds depends on collaboration, transparency, and a shared commitment to building long-term consumer confidence.”

Welcoming the move, Amber Pepper, CEO of the Natural Diamond Council, added:

“GJEPC have long been a valued partner of the Natural Diamond Council. Their move toward membership deepens that partnership and strengthens our ability to reach the next generation of consumers with clear, compelling information about what makes natural diamonds rare, authentic, and meaningful.”

The move builds on GJEPC’s signature of the Luanda Accord in June 2025, reinforcing India’s commitment to collective action across the natural diamond value chain.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR U.A.E.?

The United Arab Emirates’s Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) further reinforced the momentum behind the Luanda Accord by signing a Letter of Intent reflecting its intention to become a member of the Natural Diamond Councilby 1 May 2026.

As the world’s largest diamond trading hub, Dubai plays a central role in linking African production with international markets. DMCC’s engagement highlights the importance of aligning trading centres with producer nations and global marketing efforts.

Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of DMCC, commented:

“As the world’s largest diamond trading hub, DMCC is home to a leading community of companies operating across the global diamond trade. Our move toward membership in the Natural Diamond Council reflects our commitment to supporting this community, while also contributing to the continued growth and long-term stability of the natural diamond industry.

Strengthening the way natural diamonds are presented to consumers is key to building awareness and sustaining demand. We also recognise the important role African producing nations play in the industry and will continue to work with partners to help ensure the value generated supports economic progress in the countries and communities from which these resources originate.

By connecting production with international markets through Dubai, DMCC will continue to support a transparent, competitive, and future-focused diamond sector.”

Welcoming the move, Amber Pepper, CEO of the Natural Diamond Council, added:

“I welcome the opportunity to work with DMCC to ensure that the industry’s efforts to support the natural diamond sector are aligned and amplified around the world.”

Together, the accession of Namibia, the planned entry of GJEPC into the NDC, and DMCC’s commitment represent a significant step forward for the Luanda Accord and the Natural Diamond Council. The developments reflect a growing recognition that the long-term health of the natural diamond industry depends on unity across producers, manufacturers, traders, and retailers.

The Luanda Accord signatories and the Natural Diamond Council continue to call on all participants across the diamond value chain to support this initiative. As the industry looks ahead, the message from Cape Town is clear: only a shared vision—matched by sustained investment in consumer demand—can secure the enduring value of natural diamonds for generations to come.
