LBMA Survey: Gold is expected to trade around 4,500 US dollars per ounce by the end of 2026, according to the average forecast from a mid-year survey of 16 professional analysts conducted by the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) in July. Forecasts varied significantly, reflecting continued uncertainty around monetary policy, inflation and geopolitical risks.

Check out the latest Gold, Silver prices in MCX, International Market, Sarafa and your city on our new website– https://goldpricetodaynews.com/

Gold Price Forecast: Analysts Expect 4,500 US Dollars by Year-End

The LBMA survey puts the average year-end gold price forecast at 4,500 US dollars per ounce. Among the 16 analysts surveyed, the highest year-end projection was 5,100 US dollars, while the lowest stood at 3,879 US dollars.

The latest survey provides a mid-year update to the forecasts published by LBMA earlier in 2026 and shows that analysts’ expectations have broadly adjusted to the price performance seen during the first seven months of the year.

Gold Prices See Extreme Volatility in 2026

Gold prices experienced unusually sharp swings during the first seven months of 2026.

The precious metal reached an all-time high of 5,501.70 US dollars on January 29, before falling to a 2026 low of 3,978.55 US dollars on July 1. Gold subsequently ended July at 4,026.60 US dollars, representing an 8.2% decline for the year so far.

Despite the decline from the January peak, gold’s average price during the first seven months was 4,595.75 US dollars.

This was approximately 135 US dollars below the full-year average forecast of 4,730.75 US dollars made by 28 professional analysts surveyed by LBMA in January.

LBMA Mid-Year Survey Updates Gold Price Expectations

The mid-year LBMA survey indicates that professional analysts have brought their forecasts closer to the actual market performance seen so far in 2026.

The latest survey places the average 2026 gold price forecast at 4,604 US dollars per ounce.

For the second half of 2026, analysts’ projected price highs range from 4,872 to 5,800 US dollars, while forecast lows extend down to 3,450 US dollars.

The wide range highlights the uncertainty surrounding the gold market during the remainder of the year.

Fed Policy and US Inflation Remain Key Gold Price Drivers

The factors influencing gold price expectations have remained broadly similar to those identified at the beginning of 2026.

Analysts continue to monitor:

US inflation

Federal Reserve monetary policy

Central bank gold purchases

Geopolitical developments

Middle East tensions

However, the emphasis among analysts has shifted, with greater attention now being placed on the Federal Reserve and its policy direction under the new leadership of Kevin Warsh.

The expected response of the US central bank to incoming US inflation data remains an important factor for the outlook for gold prices.

Middle East Tensions Also Remain a Major Concern

Geopolitical risks continue to feature prominently in analysts’ gold forecasts.

Out of the 16 analysts surveyed, five identified Iran as their primary concern. One analyst highlighted continued central bank demand for gold, while the remaining respondents focused mainly on the Federal Reserve and its response to US inflation.

This suggests that geopolitical uncertainty, monetary policy and official-sector gold purchases remain central to expectations for the precious metal.

LBMA Gold Price Forecast for 2026

The mid-year snapshot provides the following average projections from the 16 analysts surveyed:

2026 Average Gold Price: 4,604 US dollars per ounce

2026 H2 High: 4,818 US dollars per ounce

2026 Year-End Gold Price: 4,500 US dollars per ounce

The survey also shows a much wider range of individual expectations for the second half of the year, with projected highs between 4,872 and 5,800 US dollars and lows reaching as low as 3,450 US dollars.

What the LBMA Survey Means for Gold Investors

The LBMA survey indicates that professional analysts remain divided over the direction of gold prices for the rest of 2026. While the average year-end forecast stands at 4,500 US dollars, the broad range of projections reflects uncertainty over Fed policy, inflation, geopolitical risks and central bank buying.

Gold’s performance in the first seven months has already demonstrated the potential for significant price movements, making these factors particularly important for the market outlook.

FAQs

1. What is the LBMA gold price forecast for the end of 2026?

The average year-end gold price forecast from the LBMA’s July survey of 16 professional analysts is 4,500 US dollars per ounce. Individual year-end forecasts range from 3,879 to 5,100 US dollars, highlighting the significant uncertainty surrounding the gold market during the remainder of 2026.

2. What is the average gold price forecast for 2026?

According to the latest LBMA mid-year survey, professional analysts expect the average gold price for 2026 to be 4,604 US dollars per ounce. This forecast reflects a reassessment of expectations following the substantial volatility experienced by gold during the first seven months of the year.

3. What was the highest gold price recorded in 2026?

Gold reached an all-time high of 5,501.70 US dollars per ounce on January 29, 2026. The metal subsequently experienced a significant correction and touched a 2026 low of 3,978.55 US dollars on July 1, before ending July at 4,026.60 US dollars.

4. What factors are expected to influence gold prices in the second half of 2026?

LBMA analysts continue to monitor US inflation, Federal Reserve monetary policy, central bank gold purchases and geopolitical developments. Middle East tensions, particularly developments involving Iran, are also a major concern. The Fed’s policy direction under its new leadership is receiving increased attention from analysts.

5. How high and low could gold prices go in the second half of 2026?

The LBMA survey shows a wide range of expectations. Forecast highs for the second half of 2026 range from 4,872 to 5,800 US dollars per ounce, while projected lows could fall to 3,450 US dollars. This broad range reflects continued uncertainty over monetary policy, inflation, geopolitics and central bank demand.

The scheme invests in LBMA-standard gold through IIBX, offers weekly liquidity and physical gold redemption, and aims to expand institutional participation while reinforcing GIFT City's role as a global bullion investment hub.

India’s international financial hub, GIFT City, has achieved a major milestone in its journey to becoming a global bullion investment destination. Artha Bharat Investment Managers IFSC LLP has introduced the Artha Bharat FinMet Physical Gold Fund, making it the first physical commodity fund and the first gold fund to be launched from GIFT City under the regulatory framework of the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA). The launch follows the implementation of new regulations that recognized commodity trading as a financial product from January 2026.

Check out the latest Gold, Silver prices in MCX, International Market, Sarafa and your city on our new website – https://goldpricetodaynews.com/

Artha Bharat Thanks IFSCA for Enabling Innovation

Commenting on the launch, Sachin Sawrikar, Managing Partner, Artha Bharat Investment Managers IFSC LLP, said:

“We are grateful to the International Financial Services Authority for working with the industry to develop a robust regulatory framework that rewards and encourages innovation in product offering that will help establish GIFT City as the preeminent IFSC of the region.”

He added that the new regulatory framework has opened the door for innovative investment products that can strengthen GIFT City’s position as a leading international financial centre.

Fund to Track International Gold Prices

The open-ended and passively managed fund has been launched in partnership with Singapore-based precious metals specialist FinMet, which will serve as the investment advisor. The scheme aims to closely replicate international spot gold prices by investing at least 95 percent of its assets in London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) standard gold bars traded through the India International Bullion Exchange (IIBX).

The fund will offer weekly subscriptions and redemptions, providing investors with greater liquidity than many conventional physical gold investment products. It also carries a competitive total expense ratio (TER) of 0.65 percent per annum.

Investors Can Redeem Physical Gold or Cash

Highlighting one of the fund’s key features, Sawrikar said:

“Our scheme will invest in physical gold stored in IIDI (India International Depository IFSC) insured vaults within GIFT City — regulated by IFSCA.”

He further added:

“Another first with our scheme is that investors will have an option to receive certified physical gold bars or equivalent cash when they wish to redeem their units in the scheme.”

This feature makes the fund one of the few investment products in India to offer investors the flexibility of taking delivery of physical bullion.

Why Artha Bharat Remains Positive on Gold

The company believes current market conditions present an attractive opportunity for medium- and long-term investors. While gold is trading around 28 percent below its January all-time high, the metal has continued to generate strong long-term returns.

According to Artha Bharat, gold has delivered a 13.7 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) over the last 10 years, 20.4 percent CAGR over the past five years, and approximately 20 percent returns over the last year as of June 30, 2026.

Gold Offers Three Structural Advantages

Explaining why gold remains an essential portfolio asset, Sawrikar said:

“Gold offers three structural advantages that make it indispensable in any portfolio: near-zero correlation with equities, freedom from counterparty and sanctions risk, and competitive long-run returns.”

The company highlighted the following advantages:

Near-zero correlation with equities, with a correlation factor of 0.02 against the S&P 500.

No sovereign credit, counterparty, or sanctions risk.

Long-term annualized returns of 12.1 percent since 2001, outperforming the S&P 500’s 10.4 percent total return during the same period.

Gold Plays a Critical Role During Market Stress

Sawrikar also emphasized gold’s defensive role in diversified portfolios, stating:

“Gold stood firm in 2022 when bonds and equities fell simultaneously, challenging the traditional 60/40 framework. Gold is the genuine third leg of a resilient portfolio, not a bond substitute.”

The company believes these characteristics make gold an effective hedge during periods of market uncertainty.

Boosting Institutional Participation in IIBX

Beyond launching a new investment product, Artha Bharat aims to strengthen activity on the India International Bullion Exchange (IIBX). The company noted that while IIBX has largely been driven by commercial gold imports since its launch, the new fund will become the first institutional investment vehicle to hold physical gold through the exchange.

Sawrikar said: “IIBX was built to be world-class infrastructure for gold trading and storage, regulated, transparent, and LBMA-standard. But infrastructure only realises its potential when it has sustained utilisation. Our fund will be the first institutional investment vehicle to use IIBX and IIDI vaults not for import, but for holding gold as a long-term financial asset. We hope this catalyses other fund managers, family offices, and institutional investors to follow, and in doing so, fulfil the original vision of GIFT City as a global hub for gold finance, not merely a conduit for jewelry imports.”

A Milestone for India’s Bullion Investment Ecosystem

With institutional-grade storage, international bullion standards, weekly liquidity, and optional physical gold redemption, the Artha Bharat FinMet Physical Gold Fund represents an important milestone for India’s regulated precious metals market. Industry observers believe the launch could encourage further innovation in commodity-based investment products while strengthening GIFT City’s ambition to become a global bullion finance centre.

Activating the Trading Ecosystem at IIBX

This launch represents a deliberate effort to build up the local financial ecosystem. Launched originally in July 2022 as India’s premier international bullion exchange, the IIBX has faced difficulties maintaining steady trading volumes. Volumes initially climbed from 411 kilograms in fiscal year 2022–23 to 92 tonnes in fiscal year 2024–25, before dropping sharply to just 600 kilograms year-to-date in fiscal year 2025–26.

Crucially, prior exchange activity was almost entirely driven by commercial jewelry imports, lacking participation from institutional funds holding the metal as a core financial asset. The Artha Bharat FinMet Physical Gold Fund changes this dynamic by becoming the very first investment fund to hold physical gold on the IIBX. This introduces long-term institutional investment flows rather than short-cycle commercial import transactions.

Management notes that while the IIBX was designed as a world-class, transparent platform, infrastructure requires sustained utilization to achieve its full potential. By utilizing the exchange and IIDI vaults for long-term asset holding rather than retail importing, the fund aims to catalyze other managers, family offices, and institutional players to participate, fulfilling the original vision of GIFT City as a global hub for gold finance.

About Artha Bharat

Artha Bharat Investment Managers IFSC LLP is one of the largest fund management entities operating from GIFT City and registered with the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA). It manages the Artha Global Opportunities Fund, Artha Global Multiplier Fund and the Artha Bharat Absolute Returns Fund that are registered with the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA), GIFT City as Category III Alternate Investment Funds. The 750 million dollar IFSCA registered FME is promoted by XLRI alumnus and CFA charter holder Sachin Sawrikar, who brings over 30 years of global fund management experience.

FAQs

Global leaders from the bullion, mining and precious metals industries are set to gather in London as The London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) and the World Gold Council (WGC) is all set to jointly host the Sustainability & Responsible Sourcing Summit 2026 from June 17-19 at the Hilton London Tower Bridge. It is bringing together industry participants, regulators, refiners, civil society groups and policymakers to discuss the evolving sustainability and responsible sourcing landscape within the global precious metals sector.

According to the organizers, the summit will focus on how geopolitical developments and evolving regulations are reshaping expectations around sustainability, compliance and responsible sourcing practices across the bullion industry. Discussions during the event will centre on practical implementation strategies, emerging risks, collaborative partnerships and industry-led initiatives aimed at improving sourcing standards, particularly in high-risk and artisanal mining regions.

The summit agenda has been designed for stakeholders across the precious metals value chain including governments, regulators, refiners, miners, financial institutions and assurance providers.

Opening Session to Focus on Responsible Sourcing Challenges

The opening session titled “Why Dialogue Must Now Become Action” will feature remarks by Ruth Crowell, Chief Executive of LBMA, and David Tait, Chief Executive Officer of the World Gold Council.

The summit will also feature a keynote address by Dominic Raab, Head of Global Affairs at Appian Capital Advisory and Special Envoy to the World Gold Council, on the topic “Combatting Illicit Gold Flows: How Collective Failure and a Responsibility to Act Demands Coordinated Action.”

LBMA Highlights Industry Transparency Efforts

The announcement comes as LBMA continues expanding transparency initiatives across the bullion market. As of end-April 2026, London vaults held 9,372 tonnes of gold, representing a 0.35% monthly increase, valued at approximately USD 1.4 trillion or nearly 749,768 gold bars.

Silver holdings in London vaults stood at 27,454 tonnes, down 0.1% from the previous month, valued at approximately USD 64.9 billion and equivalent to around 915,122 silver bars. LBMA said publication of monthly vault holding data reflects the association’s continued commitment toward greater market transparency and timely disclosure.

Malaysia Gold Import Duty: Investing in premium physical gold in Malaysia is about to get significantly more expensive. In a surprise policy shift that disrupts the country’s long-standing status as a duty-free haven for precious metals, Malaysia is set to introduce a 10% customs tax on physical gold bars meeting London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) standards. Effective June 8, 2026, the new levy officially ends the nation’s previous exemption on gold bullion import duties, fundamentally altering the math for local gold investors. The major policy change was announced by Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad on May 18, 2026.

For a country that previously levied zero import or export duties on gold bullion or jewelry, the move marks a sharp economic pivot. For investors holding or purchasing LBMA-standard bars through Malaysian banks, the reality of the new tax is both straightforward and unfriendly: buying a standard one-kilogram bar priced at approximately RM450,000 will now demand an additional RM45,000 in tax alone.

What Changed and Who Gets Hit?

The upcoming customs tax specifically targets LBMA bars, which feature 99.99% pure gold and meet the rigorous international wholesale standards utilized by central banks, institutional investors, and major trading houses worldwide. Because of their global liquidity, these are the exact bars most commonly available through retail bank gold accounts across Malaysia.

However, initial reports indicate a distinct loophole: non-LBMA gold savings products appear to be unaffected by the new tax. This exemption creates a sudden two-tier market dynamic:

LBMA-Standard Gold: Universally recognized, highest purity, but now carries a heavy 10% tax premium.

Non-LBMA Gold: Cheaper, local, or lower-purity alternatives that currently bypass the new customs levy.

Because banks offering LBMA-standard gold bars will pass the customs tax directly onto consumers, the retail pricing spread between Malaysian gold and international spot prices is about to widen considerably.

Disrupting Malaysia’s Gold Market Context

Historically, Malaysia’s duty-free regime made it one of Southeast Asia’s most attractive jurisdictions for precious metal transactions. The combination of zero import/export duties and a highly developed Islamic banking infrastructure allowed major institutions—including Bank Muamalat, Maybank, and CIMB—to offer robust, low-cost, Shariah-compliant gold investment products. The introduction of this 10% tax threatens to diminish that competitive edge.

What This Means for Investors

For retail and institutional investors alike, the immediate fallout boils down to simple arithmetic. Anyone purchasing a 1 kg LBMA bar through a Malaysian financial institution after June 8 will pay roughly RM45,000 more than they would have just a week prior.

Looking ahead, the growing divide between LBMA and non-LBMA products deserves close scrutiny. Financial analysts warn that if investors rotate heavily into lower-purity, non-taxed alternatives to avoid the 10% premium, Malaysia’s gold market could suffer a quality downgrade. This behavioral shift could result in less institutional-grade bullion flowing through the domestic system, leaving a market heavily saturated by retail-grade products. Investors looking to accumulate international-standard gold wealth face a rapidly closing window to buy before the June deadline.

FAQ’s

1. What is Malaysia’s new gold import duty policy?
Malaysia will introduce a 10% customs tax on physical gold bars that meet London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) standards starting June 8, 2026. The move officially ends the country’s long-standing duty-free treatment for premium bullion products and is expected to significantly increase acquisition costs for investors purchasing internationally recognized gold bars.

2. Which gold products will be affected by the new customs tax?
The new levy primarily targets LBMA-standard gold bars, which typically feature 99.99% purity and are widely used by banks, institutional investors, and global bullion traders. These products are commonly offered through Malaysian banking institutions and gold investment accounts due to their high liquidity and international acceptance.

3. How much more expensive will LBMA gold become for investors?
Under the new policy, investors purchasing LBMA-standard bullion will need to pay an additional 10% customs charge on top of the prevailing gold price. For example, a one-kilogram gold bar valued at approximately RM450,000 could attract nearly RM45,000 in extra costs, substantially increasing the total investment amount.

4. Are non-LBMA gold products exempt from the new tax?
Initial reports indicate that certain non-LBMA gold savings products and lower-purity bullion alternatives may not be subject to the new customs levy. This could create a two-tier market in Malaysia, where internationally certified bullion becomes more expensive while locally sourced or non-standard products remain comparatively affordable.

5. What impact could the new gold duty have on Malaysia’s bullion market?
Market analysts believe the policy could alter investor behavior by encouraging a shift toward non-LBMA gold products to avoid higher costs. Over time, this may reduce the circulation of institutional-grade bullion within Malaysia and weaken the country’s attractiveness as a regional hub for low-cost precious metals investment and Shariah-compliant gold products.

WGC, LBMA, Gold HQLA: In a strategic move to modernize global banking regulations, the World Gold Council (WGC) and the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) have officially launched a joint initiative and a dedicated digital platform, HQLA.gold. The mission is to demonstrate that gold fundamentally meets the criteria for a High-Quality Liquid Asset (HQLA) under the stringent Basel III framework.

Redefining Gold’s Role in Global Banking Regulation

Traditionally, global banking regulations have categorized cash and government bonds as the primary components of High-Quality Liquid Assets—assets designed to ensure that financial institutions can remain resilient during periods of extreme market disruption.

However, the WGC and LBMA argue that increased market transparency and robust new data necessitate a re-examination of gold. The newly launched website, HQLA.gold, serves as a comprehensive resource for investors, policymakers, and regulators to evaluate gold’s liquidity against Basel III standards.

The Case for Gold as a ‘Level One’ HQLA

The collaboration aims to elevate gold’s status to a Level One HQLA, placing it on par with the world’s most stable government securities. The WGC and LBMA highlight several defining features that support this reclassification:

Low Risk & Ease of Valuation: Gold’s universal value and transparent pricing mechanisms.

Market Depth: A massive, global pool of liquidity that remains active even during crises.

Resilience Under Stress: Gold’s historical performance as a “flight-to-quality” asset during economic downturns.

Regulatory Alignment: Drawing on academic analysis and market evidence to meet Basel III’s specific safety criteria.

A Unified Push for Regulatory Change

The launch of the HQLA website marks a significant milestone in the advocacy efforts of both organizations. By bringing together regulatory context and clear market evidence, the WGC and LBMA are providing a roadmap for gold’s integration into the modern financial system’s safety net.

“WGC and LBMA are committed to working together for the advancement of gold’s reclassification as a High-Quality Liquid Asset,” the organizations stated. “It is time to review the uniform definitions and include gold as an HQLA.”

Why This Matters for Investors and Policymakers ?

If gold is successfully reclassified as an HQLA, it would allow banks to hold gold to meet liquidity coverage ratios. This could lead to:

Increased Institutional Demand: Central and commercial banks may increase gold holdings for regulatory compliance.

Market Stability: Strengthening the role of gold as a stabilizer within the banking sector.

Modernized Standards: Aligning 21st-century market data with decades-old banking definitions.

For more information, research, and data-driven analysis on gold’s liquidity characteristics, visit the new portal at hqla.gold.
