Gold and silver showed very high volatility on Wednesday as the U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman maintains a hawkish stance in his testifies before the U.S. congress. He said that the U.S. Federal Reserve could continue to raise interest rates to tame inflation.

There was no surprise in his comments and markets reacted negatively after his comments. Gold and silver also see pressure after sharp fall in crude oil prices as the U.S. President Cuts fuel tax. However, British inflation hit its highest levels in the month of May in the last 40 years to 9.1% and Canadian CPI inflation also rose more than expectations and supported precious metals at lower levels. Weakness in the global equity markets, profit taking in the dollar index and the U.S. bond yields also supported gold and silver at lower levels.
