Abaxx Technologies Inc. (TSX: ABXX; OTCQX: ABXXF), a financial technology and market infrastructure company and the majority shareholder of Abaxx Singapore Pte. Ltd., announced that Abaxx Exchange recorded 1,522,286 contracts in trading volume during the third quarter of 2026, a 71% increase compared with the second quarter.
The company also reported higher average daily trading volume and average daily open interest, reflecting expanding activity across its commodity futures markets.
Abaxx Exchange Sets New Quarterly Records for Trading Volume and Open Interest
Abaxx Exchange reported growth across several key trading indicators in the July–September quarter.
- Quarterly trading volume: Increased 71% to 1,522,286 contracts compared with Q2 2026.
- Average daily volume (ADV): Rose 61% to 23,420 contracts per day.
- Average daily open interest: Increased 22% to 782 contracts.
- LNG, gold and lithium futures: Gulf of Mexico LNG (GOM), North Pacific Asia LNG (NPA), Gold Singapore (GKS) and Lithium Carbonate Singapore (LCS) futures each achieved new quarterly volume records.
- Silver futures: Silver Singapore (SSP) futures recorded 454,241 contracts during their first full quarter of trading following their launch on May 22.
Compared with the previous quarter, trading volume increased 17% for GOM futures, 19% for NPA futures, 42% for GKS futures and 9% for LCS futures.
The company also highlighted substantial growth over the six months ended September 30, 2026. Compared with the preceding six-month period, trading volume rose from 332,594 to 2,411,188 contracts, while average daily volume climbed from 2,661 to 19,136 contracts. Average daily open interest increased from 337 to 714 contracts.
Abaxx Exchange Focuses on Liquidity and Commercial Participation
Abaxx Exchange said its market-maker and liquidity-provider programmes are designed to encourage wider commercial participation by improving trading conditions, narrowing bid-ask spreads and increasing order-book depth.
“The third quarter was our strongest yet,” said Russell Robertson, Chief Business Development Officer at Abaxx Exchange. “We remain focused on using our market maker and liquidity provider programs to create the conditions necessary for increased commercial participation in our markets. Commercial participants want to see more outright trading, which increased to 22% of September trading volume from 15% in August. They want narrower bid-ask spreads to reduce the cost of entering and exiting positions and order book depth to facilitate putting on larger positions. Our market makers have decreased their average bid-ask spreads in GKS and SSP, and we continue to see an increase in order book depth across multiple active contract months.”
According to the company, these developments are important for attracting commercial traders who require sufficient market depth and competitive transaction costs to execute larger positions.
Monthly Trading Activity Fluctuates Despite Quarterly Growth
Although Q3 delivered record results, trading activity varied across individual months and sessions. Abaxx noted that such fluctuations are expected in developing markets.
Average daily volume reached 34,136 contracts in July, partly due to three particularly active sessions with daily volumes of 117,879, 103,527 and 70,941 contracts. Excluding those sessions, average daily volume across the remaining 20 trading days was 24,639 contracts.
Average daily volume subsequently stood at 18,897 contracts in August and 16,328 contracts in September.
The company attributed the softer activity in August and early September to normal market variability, including summer seasonality and adjustments to liquidity-provider programmes rather than reductions in those programmes.
Trading activity strengthened during the second half of September. Average daily volume reached 27,916 contracts per day during that period and stood at 22,340 contracts per day through October 9.
Abaxx said individual periods of unusually high or low activity should not be considered in isolation when assessing the exchange’s longer-term growth. It uses six-month comparisons in its updates to provide a broader view of trading progress.
Abaxx Exchange Maintains Long-Term Volume Growth Ambition
The company remains focused on its goal of reaching 1 million contracts in average daily volume over three to five years. It said achieving this target would require sustained half-over-half growth of 50% to 100%.
Abaxx believes that establishing stronger market infrastructure and liquidity conditions can help attract more commercial participants and support trading growth over time.
“The key indicators commercial traders care about—order-book depth, narrowing bid-ask spreads, and a growing share of outright trading—are all moving in the right direction,” said Abaxx Founder and CEO Josh Crumb. “It’s a process. First, market makers and liquidity providers establish the right conditions, which they have largely done. Then, commercial participants encourage their FCMs to connect directly to Abaxx Clearing. In particular, commercial participation would greatly benefit from onboarding a tier-1 bank clearing member to support their margin financing needs. To support this onboarding phase, our market maker and liquidity provider programs are, by design, structured to scale alongside activity. We expect these liquidity-related credits to essentially offset transaction and clearing fees in the near term, as our priority remains building the next generation of commodity benchmark futures contracts rather than near-term transaction and clearing revenue.”
The statement underscores the company’s current priority of expanding market participation and developing commodity benchmark futures rather than maximising near-term transaction and clearing revenue.
LNG Futures Reach Consecutive Monthly Volume Records in September
Abaxx Exchange reported that its Gulf of Mexico LNG and North Pacific Asia LNG futures contracts achieved new monthly trading-volume highs for the second consecutive month in September 2026.
Key figures for September included:
- GOM LNG futures: Volume increased 5% to 26,318 contracts compared with August.
- NPA LNG futures: Volume rose 7% to 26,699 contracts.
- Combined LNG futures volume: Reached 53,017 contracts, up 6% month over month.
- Gold Singapore futures: Recorded 176,928 contracts, an increase of 1% from August. This marked the sixth consecutive month with volume exceeding 170,000 contracts.
- Total September exchange volume: Reached 359,208 contracts, making it the third-highest monthly total recorded to date, although it was 5% below August.
The exchange’s average daily volume for September was 16,328 contracts. After relatively subdued activity during the first half of the month, trading accelerated in the second half, with average daily volume rising to 27,916 contracts.
Momentum continued into October, with average daily volume reaching 22,340 contracts through October 9, according to the company.
