Gold, Silver Weekly Outlook: Gold and Silver to Trade Sideways to Down Trend Next Week Due to US Fed Rate Hike Fears: Experts

Manoj Jain, Director of Commodity and Currency in Prithvi Finmart says gold and silver extended its fall last week and gold prices slipped to nearly two month lows and silver prices also slipped to 3.5 month lows in the international markets. Gold and silver extended its fall after strong gains in the dollar index.

The dollar index surged to two month highs and crossed 105 marks, the U.S. 10-year bond yields also crossed 3.90% levels amid further aggressive interest rate hike expectations from the U.S. Fed. The U.S. Fed officials advocates for further 50 basis point rate hikes amid hotter than expected U.S. inflation and strong economic data.

The U.S. PCE price index shows growth of 0.6% in January against a growth of 0.4% in December month. The U.S. yearly inflation expectation of 4.7% against it was 4.6% in December month.

Jain said strength in the dollar could continue to push precious metals lower. Gold prices could test $1800 per troy ounce and silver could also test $20 per troy ounce levels in the upcoming sessions.

According to Manoj Jain gold has support at $1804-1792, while resistance at $1834-1845 per troy ounce. Silver has support at $20.40-20.10, while resistance is at $21.00-21.40 per troy ounce. At mcx, gold is having support at 55220-55000 and resistance at 55600-55820 while silver is having support at 64000-63550 and resistance at 64950-65400. He suggested selling gold on rise around 55650 with a stop loss of 55920 for the target of 55100

Anuj Gupta, VP in IIFL Sec said gold has support at Rs 55200-55700 on MCX next week and resistance at Rs 55800-56200. Silver has support at Rs 62500-61000 while resistance is at Rs 65000-66500.

According to Gupta, the gold price on COMEX has lower support at $1800-1780 while resistance at $1835-1860. Gupta has advised to sell gold and silver on the rise.
