Who is Kevin Warsh: The New Federal Reserve Chairman

Who Is Kevin Warsh: President Donald Trump has formally nominated Kevin Warsh, a former Governor of the Federal Reserve, to serve as the next Chair of the Federal Reserve, the United States’ central banking authority. The nomination positions Warsh—who previously played a key role during the 2008 financial crisis—to succeed Jerome Powell, subject to confirmation by the U.S. Senate, and signals a potential shift in the future direction of U.S. monetary policy.

US President Donald Trump on his social media platform Truth Social said “Kevin currently serves as the Shepard Family Distinguished Visiting Fellow in Economics at the Hoover Institution, and Lecturer at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He is a Partner of Stanley Druckenmiller at Duquesne Family Office LLC. Kevin received his A.B. from Stanford University, and J.D. from Harvard Law School. He has conducted extensive research in the field of Economics and Finance. Kevin issued an Independent Report to the Bank of England proposing reforms in the conduct of Monetary Policy in the United Kingdom. Parliament adopted the Report’s recommendations. Kevin Warsh became the youngest Fed Governor, ever, at 35, and served as a Member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System from 2006 until 2011, as the Federal Reserve’s Representative to the Group of Twenty (G-20), and as the Board’s Emissary to the Emerging and Advanced Economies in Asia. In addition, he was Administrative Governor, managing and overseeing the Board’s operations, personnel, and financial performance. Prior to his appointment to the Board, from 2002 until 2006, Kevin served as Special Assistant to the President for Economic Policy, and Executive Secretary of the White House National Economic Council. Previously, Kevin was a member of the Mergers & Acquisitions Department at Morgan Stanley & Co., in New York, serving as Vice President and Executive Director. I have known Kevin for a long period of time, and have no doubt that he will go down as one of the GREAT Fed Chairmen, maybe the best. On top of everything else, he is “central casting,” and he will never let you down. Congratulations Kevin! PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP”

WHO IS KEVIN WARSH?

Kevin Maxwell Warsh (born April 13, 1970, in Albany, New York) is an American financier, lawyer, and former central banker with deep experience in both government and markets. He graduated from Stanford University with a bachelor’s degree in public policy and earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School, where he studied the intersection of law, economics, and regulatory policy.

Early in his career, he worked at Morgan Stanley & Co. in New York in the mergers and acquisitions department, eventually becoming vice-president and executive director. He then entered public service, serving from 2002 to 2006 as Special Assistant to the President for Economic Policy and Executive Secretary of the White House National Economic Council in the George W. Bush administration, where he advised on finance, banking, and regulatory matters.

In 2006, at age 35, Warsh was appointed to the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, making him one of the youngest governors in the central bank’s history. During his time on the Fed (2006–2011), he served as the Federal Reserve’s liaison to Wall Street and its representative to global forums such as the G-20, playing a significant role during the 2008 financial crisis—including helping negotiate support structures for major firms like Morgan Stanley at the height of the turmoil.

Warsh became known within the Fed as more skeptical of prolonged expansive monetary policies; he publicly expressed concerns that quantitative easing and a rapidly expanding balance sheet could lead to inflation or other distortions, and he resigned in March 2011—years before his term was set to expire—citing disagreements over policy direction.

Since leaving the Fed, he has remained influential in economic policy circles: he is the Shepard Family Distinguished Visiting Fellow in Economics at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University and a lecturer at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, a partner at Duquesne Family Office LLC (associated with investor Stanley Druckenmiller), and serves on the boards of major companies including United Parcel Service (UPS) and the e-commerce firm Coupang. He is also a member of the Group of Thirty (G30) and the Panel of Economic Advisers for the U.S. Congressional Budget Office.
