Milestones in Hallmarking
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) recently launched the fourth phase of mandatory hallmarking, expanding consumer trust through HUID (Hallmark Unique Identification). Since its inception, over 40 crore gold jewellery items have been hallmarked, ensuring transparency in the market. Registered jewellers have grown from 34,647 to 1,94,039, and Assaying and Hallmarking Centres (AHCs) increased from 945 to 1,622.

BIS CARE App for Consumer Support
The BIS CARE app provides consumers with essential information about hallmarked jewellery, including:
Jeweller’s registration details.
Assaying and Hallmarking Centre information.
Article type and hallmarking date.
Metal purity and more.
Consumers can also use the app to file complaints about product quality or misuse of BIS marks. The app is available for download on the Play Store.

With these developments, the hallmarking process continues to enhance consumer confidence and ensure quality standards in the jewellery industry.
